Amazon Senior Accountant, Intercompany Settlement in Arlington, Virginia

This position will be responsible for supporting the accounting function for intercompany settlement. Working with cross-department business leaders, tax, treasury, and local accounting teams to ensure a seamless process through proposal, approval and posting into the company’s financial statements. Candidates will work in a fast-paced environment, manage through ambiguity and complexity while supporting intercompany settlement activity impacting the global accounting organization. Previous experience with intercompany accounting is considered a plus. This role requires excellent communication and organization skills, including the ability to anticipate, identify and communicate risks cross-functional teams.

Key job responsibilities

• Lead intercompany variance analysis, foreign exchange analysis and other processes during month-end close, including coordination with internal shared services team and engaging with global business and process accounting owners.

• Support global intercompany restricted currency settlements across 35 countries.

• This includes reviewing invoices and other backup documentations for restricted settlements and coordination with regional accounting, tax and treasury teams.

• Own process improvements including automations, and support settlement system enhancements as a subject-matter expert.

• Drive or support various aspects of our intercompany accounting and reporting processes, ensuring compliance with global internal controls.

• Execute judgments to maintain healthy operational processes and ensure the right decisions are reached to close the books each month.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, information systems, finance, or equivalent

  • Experience in tax, finance or a related analytical field, or experience in accounting management in Big Four with Fortune 500 clients

  • Experience in identifying, leading, and executing opportunities to improve, automate, standardize or simplify finance or business tools and processes, or experience participating in continuous improvement projects in your team to scale and improve controllership with measurable results

  • Experience researching and documenting support for accounting conclusions

  • Experience working with large-scale data mining and reporting tools (examples: SQL, MS Access, Essbase, Cognos) and other financial systems (examples: Oracle, SAP, Lawson, JD Edwards)

  • Experience working with stakeholders

  • 5+ years of finance or a related analytical field experience

  • Knowledge of GAAP research tools and the FASB codification

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA, or MBA

  • Experience designing and implementing controls or experience performing audits over financial reporting environment

  • Experience in financial modeling, P&L management or analysis

  • Experience with advanced use of SQL for data mining and business intelligence

  • 5+ years of Fortune 500 operational accounting experience

  • Experience with global intercompany accounting, systems and large volume of GL transactions

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $56,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $128,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
