Key job responsibilities

Job responsibilities will include but not limited to:

• Own key controls on cash and investments processes

• Responsible for month-end accounting activities, including the preparation/review of journal entries and account reconciliations

• Prepare schedules that support statement of cash flow and 10Q/10K footnotes

• Assist in the preparation and delivery of information for external auditors for SOX testing and SEC reporting as part of quarterly reviews and annual audits

• Understanding of ASC Topic 210, 320, 325, 470 and 820

• Experience with Treasury and Investment operations

• Leader of accounting system implementation including requirements document and user acceptance testing

• Own and support Treasury projects and initiatives

• Build relationships across multiple teams within Amazon to foster a collaborative and productive working relationship

• Aptitude for team leadership—influencing and galvanizing others to follow you toward a solution

• Natural propensity for organization and an aptitude for information technology

• Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

• Excellent analytical skills

• Working knowledge of the COSO internal control framework and a solid understanding of the concepts of control design and operational efficiency

A day in the life

This position will support Amazon’s financial accounting process as it relates to Amazon’s Treasury and Investment business unit and will be expected to understand internal control design concepts sufficient to assess the effectiveness of controls in their area. This Senior Accountant is expected to have a strong sense of ownership, ability to identify process improvement opportunities, drive positive change across the organization, and enhance partnerships between Accounting and various business and IT groups. Technical accounting research and position paper writing may be involved in this role.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of finance or a related analytical field experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of Fortune 500 operational accounting experience

  • CPA

  • Knowledge of internal control framework (specifically COSO) to assess control design and operational efficiency

  • Knowledge of GAAP research tools and the FASB codification

  • Experience researching and documenting support for accounting conclusions

  • Experience in accounting management in Big Four with Fortune 500 clients

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $56,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $128,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
