The Data Analyst 3 is critical to the success of the Division, ensuring information is accurate and complete according to business rules and in alignment with industry standards and best practices. This role reports to the Assistant Vice President, Development Resources.

The Data Analyst 3 assists in high-priority projects and is responsible for gathering, documenting, and analyzing business requirements for assigned projects. This individual also provides first-level support for Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) and related business application systems utilized by the Division of Development and Alumni Relations. The Data Analyst 3 is accountable for providing excellent customer service, upholding quality assurance standards, and guiding project team members for validation and user acceptance testing.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Work with appropriate divisions and university staff to gather and document business requirements for assigned projects.

  • Analyze current business processes and make improvement recommendations to create efficiencies.

  • Coordinate and perform business application system testing.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation for assigned projects and applications.

  • Work with internal and external resources as appropriate to ensure the delivery of excellent customer service.

  • Keep up to date with technical and industry developments, particularly service desk and project management methodology for technical implementations.

  • Collaborate with other Development Resources personnel to ensure high-quality service and support.

  • Serve as a data subject matter expert for the Division's alumni/donor data sets – articulating the nuances of the data and how it should be interpreted/understood.

  • Perform data analysis to identify anomalies and make recommendations for automatic identification and remediation of data issues. Filter and "clean" data by reviewing reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and correct anomalies.

  • Interpret data, analyze results using prescribed techniques, and support division staff regarding data usage to facilitate strategic decisions.

  • Create, validate, and generate queries and exports for mailings, e-blasts, and analysis. Use reporting tools to generate the lists

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 5 years of experience or relevant professional experience are required. A combination of education/experience may be considered.

  • Proficiency with relational databases, including reporting tools to query databases and extract relevant data.

  • Experience retrieving data using SQL is preferred.

  • Proven experience working with complex data sets in a distributed data environment.

  • Experience with constituent relationship management solutions. Knowledge of Blackbaud product suite preferred, particularly Blackbaud CRM and Blackbaud Data Warehouse.

  • Ability to understand large, complex data sets and use this understanding to apply business rules in alignment with data standards/policies.

  • Experience in using data visualization tools (i.e., Tableau or similar).

  • Ability to correlate heterogeneous information/data into meaningful facts for analysis and reporting.

  • Ability to establish goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, including Word and Excel.

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

  • Experience in higher education or nonprofit fundraising preferred.
