GE Vernova Lead Data Scientist in Schenectady, New York

Job Description Summary

As the Lead Data Scientist for FLEXIQ MD, the Solar and Storage Solutions’ asset performance management (APM) platform, you will be responsible for the development of the AI/ML algorithms to support a predictive maintenance strategy for solar and battery energy storage plants. You will contribute to the development and deployment of modern machine learning, operational research, semantic analysis, and statistical methods for finding structure in large data sets.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Be part of a data science or cross-disciplinary team on commercially-facing development projects, typically involving large, complex data sets.

  • Support application areas that include remote monitoring and diagnostics and operations optimization of solar and battery energy storage projects.

  • Develop analytics to address customer needs and opportunities.

  • Work alongside software developers and software engineers to translate algorithms into commercially viable products and services.

  • Work in technical teams in development, deployment, and application of applied analytics, predictive analytics, and prescriptive analytics.

  • Perform exploratory and targeted data analyses using descriptive statistics and other methods.

  • Work with data engineers on data quality assessment, data cleansing and data analytics

  • Apply machine learning algorithms including classification, cluster analysis, time series analysis, forecasting, and Random Forest.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in a related (STEM) discipline.

  • Minimum of 4 years professional experience.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience developing and deploying AI/ML based solutions in an industrial domain.

  • Masters' degree from an accredited university or college in a related (STEM) discipline

  • Experience in asset performance management of industrial assets along with strong Services process knowledge & power industry domain knowledge is a plus

  • Demonstrated skill in the use of one or more analytic software tools or languages (e.g., R, Python)

  • Demonstrated skill at data cleansing, data quality assessment, and using analytics for data assessment

  • Demonstrated skill in the use of applied analytics, descriptive statistics, feature extraction and predictive analytics on industrial datasets

  • Demonstrated skill at data visualization and storytelling for an audience of stakeholders

  • Demonstrated awareness of data management methods

  • Demonstrated awareness of real-time analytics development and deployment

  • Critical thinking and problem solving methods

  • Ability to take ownership of medium sized or incompletely defined tasks

  • Strong communication skills with ability to clearly communicate issues and resolution to both a technical and non-technical audience.
