Data Scientist

Permobil, a leading assistive technology manufacturing company, is seeking a data scientist and engineer to join the Software Development team. This role is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of mobility and independence for individuals who use our products and services.

As a local data scientist in the Software team, you will undertake data collection, preprocessing, and analysis primarily on data generated by our connected wheelchairs. You will set up ETL scripts and routines to wash, transform, aggregate and transport data between our live environments and the data lake. You will help our medical science experts to get access to data in a way they can use in research. Another of your responsibilities is to build models that address business problems and present information using data visualization techniques.

You will play an important role in establishing and understanding the possibilities of data analytics and how it contributes to the organization. You will be promoting your findings and educating other parts of Permobil in what we can use data for and proactively support product development about trends that affect quality and usability for our products.

To do this, you also need to understand our software systems and powered wheelchairs. You will learn our users’ needs and how we work with complex rehab products. You will also have a supportive role within the software department, making sure the development team are aligning with best practices for data analytics and delivers the most valuable features.

Key responsibilities

  • Identify valuable data sources.

  • Preprocessing of structured and unstructured data.

  • Promote knowledge of good data structure and modelling tools.

  • Analyze large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns.

  • Build predictive models and machine-learning algorithms.

  • Present information and reports using data visualization techniques.

  • Propose solutions and strategies to business challenges.

  • Collaborate with engineering and product development teams.

  • Support other departments that want to improve their data analysis techniques.

Qualifications and Skills

  • University degree in relevant field or similar work experience in software engineering and data analysis.

  • Proven experience as a Data Scientist or Data Analyst.

  • Experience in data mining.

  • Understanding of machine-learning and operations research.

  • Knowledge of R, SQL and Python; familiarity with Java, JavaScript and TypeScript is an asset.

  • Experience using business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau) and data frameworks (e.g. Hadoop).

Who you are:

We envision you as a problem solver with a strong analytical mind and strong math skills in statistics and algebra. You also have great business acumen, communication and presentation skills. We believe you have 3-5 years of experience in data analysis combined with 3 (or more) years in medical device development.

This position is located in Sundsvall, Sweden.
