Job Description:

McDonald’s is seeking a Manager of Diplomatic Relations to join its Federal Government Relations team in Washington, DC.  The successful candidate will serve as an ambassador for the McDonald’s Brand with the diplomatic community, relevant U.S. foreign policy government agencies, and third-party stakeholders.  In coordination with colleagues across the Global Impact function (e.g. international government relations, communications, etc.), the Diplomatic Engagement Manager will develop and execute consistent, pro-active engagements across all issue areas that impact the McDonald’s System, including business issues, workforce, sustainability, supply chain, food and nutrition.  This position requires strategic and political acumen, foreign policy/engagement experience, understanding of the international public policy development process, existing network, strong motivational, writing, communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

  • In coordination with the federal government relations team, develop and implement consistent and pro-active engagement strategies to advance McDonald’s priorities with U.S. foreign policy government officials, diplomats, and third-party stakeholders.

  • Partner with McDonald’s international government relations and global impact teams, communications, subject matter experts (and other relevant functions) to effectively advocate to promote and protect McDonald’s business and strengthen McDonald’s reputation across people, planet, economic and community impact pillars.

  • Maintain and develop sophisticated foreign policy, diplomatic community, and external stakeholder’s network.

  • Monitor policy developments, assess business and reputational impact, provide timely analysis and recommendations to internal stakeholders, and develop appropriate activities and responses.

  • Represent the company at relevant conferences, forums, and public events.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in International Relations, International Development, Political Science, Public Policy or related field.

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in government and/or private sector.

  • Strong foreign policy and diplomatic community network.

  • Practical understanding of international government structures, policy development processes, and cultures.

  • Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, broad perspective, problem-solving, negotiation, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to execute strategy in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously to deliver tangible results.

  • Familiarity with complex business functions, franchise business model, relevant issue areas, and key stakeholders is strongly preferred.
